As part of the Erasmus+ programme, a mobility visit was successfully carried out at the facilities of Biogenea Pharmaceuticals in Thessaloniki, with the participation of the Programme Coordinator and four students from the Pharmacy Assistant (Technician) Programme of Study.
The visit provided participants with the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the field of biotechnology, particularly stem cell banking from umbilical cord blood, and its significant contribution to modern medicine and gene therapy. The students were informed about all stages of the process—from collection and processing to the cryopreservation of stem cells—while also becoming familiar with the strict quality assurance and safety protocols that are implemented.
During the mobility, participants were introduced to the company’s state-of-the-art technological infrastructure, the scientific applications of stem cells, and the important role that cord blood stem cell banks play in the prevention and treatment of serious diseases.
This experience proved to be a highly valuable learning opportunity for the students, enhancing both their academic knowledge and professional skills. At the same time, it highlighted the importance of European cooperation, internationalisation, and the connection between education and the latest developments in the fields of healthcare and biomedicine.
We extend our sincere thanks to the management and staff of Biogenea Pharmaceuticals for their warm hospitality and the valuable information and insights they provided to the KES College delegation.
