The Programme of Study “Medical Representative” (2 Years/ 120 ECTS, Diploma) is designed to meet the Level 5b Indicators of the National Qualifications Framework. The purpose of the Programme is to offer students quality and excellent education, as well as proper training, so that they can work as Medical Representatives within the framework of the current legislation. By combining theoretical and practical courses and courses that combine scientific knowledge with professional skills, this Programme of Study aims at delivering learning outcomes that contribute to the productive presence of the students in the field of pharmaceutical, scientific detailing for health professionals, such as doctors, dentists, and pharmacists. In particular, the graduates of the Programme of Study can acquire horizontal skills, such as skills of effective communication, development, maintenance and management of customer relations, public relations, and marketing, but also cognitive skills, which will allow them to provide detailing and scientific evidence of the suitability of pharmaceutical products, which they represent, to the various health professionals. For this reason, special emphasis is also placed on the acquisition of knowledge related to human physiology/anatomy, the sciences of biology and chemistry and pharmacology which – among other knowledge subjects – will help the students to interact correctly with health professionals and to provide scientific, pharmaceutical detailing.

Upon completion of the Programme of Study, students are expected to:
Knowledge
- Acquire the necessary scientific knowledge (biology, chemistry, pharmacology, anatomy, physiology, etc.), in order to fully understand the various categories of drugs and their characteristics.
- Recognise the various pathological conditions of the human body and associate the disease with the appropriate drug.
- Be able to accurately explain to health professionals the indications and contraindications of various pharmaceutical products.
- Identify all the key factors involved in the good operation and development of pharmaceutical services and businesses and in general in the domestic drug market.
Skills
- Demonstrate communication skills as well as skills in developing, managing, and maintaining professional relationships with the various health professionals.
- Make decisions on the design of pharmaceutical marketing strategies.
Competences
- Be able to practice the profession of Medical Representative in order to provide accurate and complete scientific, documented detailing about the pharmaceutical products they represent.
- Be able to practice their profession based on the respective professional ethics and existing legislation.
- To prepare students to continue their studies at a higher level and for the examinations conducted under the existing legislation for registration in the Register of Medical Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus for the purpose of legal practice of the profession. The examinations are organised at regular intervals by the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health of Cyprus and include a written test covering the ‘Medicines for Human Use’ and the ‘Medical Representatives Law of 2002 (Law 74 (I)/2002)’.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Dr. Andreou is a Senior Lecturer at KES College since September 2023. Dr. Andreou holds a PhD. In Molecular Medicine (2019) and an MSc. in Molecular Medicine (2015) from the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics. In 2014, Dr. Andreou was awarded the BSc. (Hons) degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics, from the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. Since 2019, Dr. Andreou is a research scientist contributing to various research projects in the fields of human genetics and animal genetic improvement. Dr. Andreou has worked as laboratory scientist and researcher at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, where she contributed to the publication of research material in international scientific journals. She has also participated in international scientific conferences with both oral and poster presentations on her research work.

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Ms. Antoniade specialises in Human Resource Management and Project Management. She obtained her BA from Oxford Brookes University in 2018 (Business Administration (Hons).

Brief Curriculum Vitae: Ms Georgiou is a Lecturer at the College of KES from 2023. She holds an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from Frederick University of Cyprus (2021) and a BSc in Pharmacy from the European University Cyprus (2019). She is currently pursuing her MSc in Pharmaceutical Biosciences and Pharmaceutical Development at the European University Cyprus. Since 2018 she has been working as a Pharmacist. She has completed her internship at a private pharmacy and the German Oncology Department of Limassol, and has also completed her placement at the Hippocrates Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Phoebus Simeonidis, at the Institute of Neurology and Genetics under the supervision of Ms. Elena Kkouli, and at the Oncology Department of the Bank of Cyprus under the supervision of Ms. Stavroula Kitiri as part of the requirements of her Master’s Degree. Since 2022 she has been working as Head Pharmacist of the Cyprus Anticancer Association, managing the clinical Pharmacy of Arodafnousa. She is also responsible for the health services accreditation processes of the international organization “Accreditation Canada” for the following: Department of quality optimisation of medicines quality, handling safety and procedures/protocols to ensure the safety, quality, handling and administration of medicines.

Short CV: Dr. Sophia Kyriakou is a Senior Lecturer at KES College since 2020. She has a BA in Journalism from Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Georgia (1996), and a MA in Media from the same Institution.

Short CV: Dr. Demetrios Sarris is an Academic Scholar with +15 years research experience, participating in over 20 international and national research projects and has developed international collaborations with scientists from Switzerland, USA, France, Israel, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus and Greece. Publications of his research teams have a significant impact and are featured in leading scientific journals, with research findings having been presented in +30 primarily international conferences. He is also a reviewer for more than 10 international journals and has designed and supervised over 30 Thesis. Trained in Switzerland (Inst. of Botany, Univ. Basel) and Greece (Dept of Biology, Univ. of Patras) in Biology (BSc), in Ecology and Environmental Management (MSc) and in Dendro- Ecology/Climatology and Plant Science (PhD), he has been employed: (i) at the Dept of Biological Sciences of the Univ. of Cyprus (having held the positions of Assistant Professor-Academic Visitor and Special Scientist for Research & Lecturing), (ii) at the Open Univ. of Cyprus (as Academic Coordinator, Adjunct Faculty Tutor & Master’s Thesis Supervisor of the Environmental Conservation and Management Postgraduate Program), (iii) at the Dept of Life Sciences, European Univ. of Cyprus and (iv) at KES College in Cyprus (as Coordinator of the Environmental Management and of the Organic Products Technicians’ Programs). He has also worked at Academic Institutions in Greece and has Post Doc experience at the Inst. of Botany, Univ. Basel and at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, ETH-Zurich). He is an expert of the International Science Network MedECC, which supports, inter alia, the UN Environmental Program, and has served as Scientific Consultant for Scientific Documentaries (e.g. Άνυδρη Γη), for the University of Cyprus (Black Gold Strategic Program) on Sustainable Agroforestry and Organic Farming aiming to revitalize the carob industry of Cyprus («Μαύρος Χρυσός») and for the Association of Organic Farmers in Cyprus. He is also an Invited Member of the Editorial Board of Annals of Silvicultural Research.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics from the Charokopio University and an MBA from Maastricht School of Management. She holds a PhD titled “Associations between Cypriot’s children television food advertising exposure and their eating behaviour: An observational and diagnostic survey with the use of questionnaires and eating behaviour tests in 1088 Cypriot children”, awarded from the University of Nicosia. Between the years 2000-2010, she worked for MSD Pharmaceutical Company as a Medical Representative. From 2010-2018, she operated her own office as a Clinical Dietician.

Mr Charalambous works at the litigation department of the law offices of Michael Kyprianou & Co LLC as a Lawyer and his practice encompasses civil and criminal disputes. He is also heading the Intellectual property department of the firm. Mr Charalambous has attended several training seminars related to medical negligence and intellectual property in Cyprus and abroad (Austria, France, Greece). In addition, Mr Charalambous is an accredited mediator. He teaches subjects related to his expertise.
